The Advanced Robotic Control theme focuses on developing intelligent robotic control systems that reduce operator burden in challenging environments such as hot cells, gloveboxes, mobile robotics, and through-wall access systems.
By combining haptic controllers, digital twins and mixed autonomy, this work is helping shift operations away from manual handling and traditional teleoperation towards more intuitive, assisted robotic control. These innovations help operators work at greater distances from hazardous environments while improving consistency, cost reduction, operator cognitive load, and efficiency. A parallel stream will explore how AI can enable task-based robot autonomy, allowing operators to use robots to replace manual processes without the need for highly specialist robotics training, reducing training time and recruitment pressures.
